Soča Valley, the land of living waters and living mountains

In the Julian Alps, which flirt with the Mediterranean, shepherds have been driving livestock to pasture for three millennia following the same natural calendar. Early summer, the pastoral community sets off to the mountain villages and remains there until autumn. Here, natural forces have always directed their power towards well-being. Have you ever stood in a megalithic circle of stones erected by ancestors long ago to celebrate the solstices? Have you ever tasted water from a spring? Experienced an authentic shepherd's everyday life? The sustainable architecture of Nebesa Chalets draws inspiration from the tradition of alpine dairy farming. The ingredients for one of the best restaurants in the world, Hiša Franko, also come from these living mountains. Experience the land of living waters that will fill you with energy and freshness.

Nebesa Chalets

High on life are four cottages like nests for two. They hover on panoramic terraces between the sky and the earth. Nebesa Chalets are a place of peace and relaxation in complete intimacy amidst untouched nature. First neighbours are deer and roe deer on the other side of the hill. At 1000 meters above sea level, you can see in all directions, endlessly, all the way to the highest peaks of the Julian Alps and the sailboats on the sea. Occasionally, fluffy clouds obscure the view of the emerald Soča river. Nebesa, the sustainable village in Livk, draws inspiration from the culture of the living mountains of the Soča Valley. Nebesa Chalets are the home to three generations and a large shepherd dog. After 15 years, Katja and Bojan have handed over the keys of Nebesa Chalets to their daughter Maja and her husband Sam, who continue the philosophy of openness to the world and uphold local traditions. Nebesa Chalets hold the TraveLife Gold environmental certificate and the Slovenia Green Accommodation label, which commit to respecting the local environment and to living in harmony with nature. A place on the edge of reality, it is a space for all those seeking respite from the everyday.

Hiša Franko

Hiša Franko is now on the wishlist of food enthusiasts around the world. It became the first in Slovenia to be included in the list of the world's top 50 restaurants (World's 50 Best Restaurants). Its global reputation is attributed to the exceptional cuisine of the original chef, Ana Roš, who skillfully combines flavors between the Alps and the sea. In 2017, she was named the best female chef in the world. Hiša Franko, designed in 1973 by Joži and Franko (hence the name) Kramar and now succeeded by their son Valter Kramar, is closely connected to the tradition and environment of the Posočje region. This exceptional restaurant also has its own wine and cheese cellar, which is managed by Valter, one of the most knowledgeable experts on wines and cheeses in the area. Ana and Valter, as partners, lead Hiša Franko in harmony with the natural calendar of the Soča Valley. Their plates showcase everything that can be found in the forests, living waters, and mountains from early spring to the following winter. The cuisine of Hiša Franko is closely linked to local breeders, fishermen, cheesemakers, mushroom gatherers, and hunters. The in-house herbalist gathers a variety of wild plants and herbs throughout the year, which add fragrance to Ana's dishes, and the aroma of the best bread in the world fills the air from the in-house bakery, as Ana Roš firmly believes.
